Overview
The position of Alumni Community Manager is a new role at re:power that has been thoughtfully considered and years in the making. In the last three years, re:power has added 5,000 new alumni to our already large list of folks who have taken a training with us. Formerly known as Wellstone Action, in 2018 we rebranded into re:power—maintaining the depth and breadth of our training curriculum, but explicitly centering BIPOC communities. With sixteen years as Wellstone Action and four as re:power, this organization has developed over 100,000 alumni across the country who are campaigning, organizing, running for office, managing campaigns, and more!
Our re:power alumni base are majority BIPOC and majority women who hold different roles within the progressive ecosystem and who have participated in re:power trainings across our five program areas: Civic Engagement, Movement Building, Movement Technology, Governance and Women of Color Leadership Development.
With the creation of this role, we seek to build stronger community and connection among our Alumni Community, both between alumnus and re:power and between alumni themselves. The Alumni Community Manager is the primary person responsible for strategizing and executing programming to foster deeper connections and establish ongoing communications and continued learning opportunities for re:power’s growing alumni network. The Alumni Community Manager will bring an organizer mindset and build meaningful relationships with our alumni, primarily through digital engagement but also by designing events and other activities that matter and are relevant to their lives. This role will work closely and cross-functionally with members of the Communications, Program, and Development teams in various stages of alumni engagement development, event planning and promotion, digital storytelling, fundraising and data management.
The role reports directly to the Director of Strategic Communications & Marketing. The Alumni Community Manager will have a deep personal and professional connection with re:power’s core values.
Primary Responsibilities

Community Development & Management
- Create and implement a strategic vision and plan for the re:power alumni community, including:
- Build meaningful relationships with alumni through direct contact and outreach, serving as the primary point of contact
- Foster a vibrant community and increase alumni engagement through developing and executing compelling and relevant programs, events, and activities (virtual and in-person)
- Manage budgets and vendor relationships for all alumni events and programs
- Create, compile and share opportunities and resources that support alumni to continue their learning journeys and advance in their careers
- Evaluate and monitor effectiveness of programs/services. Identify problems, recommend improvements and institute changes
- Support other initiatives as needed cross-programmatically
Communications & Outreach
- Create and implement alumni messaging strategies to ensure consistent outreach and communication and foster engagement across all channels including traditional, online, and social media
- Capture and share alumni stories of impact, lessons and victories through the use of digital storytelling
- Co-create the re:power alumni community brand in collaboration with the Comms team
- Own the alumni presence on re:power’s website. Coordinate and update content on alumni webpages
- Partner with Development staff to foster a culture of giving among alumni
Data Tracking and Maintenance
- Develop a clear picture of who re:power’s alumni are by working with re:power’s CRM to enter, maintain, research and report on alumni data
- Ensure accurate and complete alumni database records; capture contact, biographical and career information of alumni through surveys and other correspondences
- Develop post-event reports that analyze alumni attendees, gathers their feedback, and compiles other event data to help measure success and inform improvements
Other
- Foster organizational knowledge-building and resource-sharing by providing timely, accurate program updates and reports to staff, Board, partners and funders, as needed
- Participate in cross-organizational activities to inform alumni programming strategies and activities

Your experience and skills
- 3–5 years of combined experience in digital or community organizing, community engagement/management, or program development.
- Proven track record of successful community engagement or development, including management, budgeting, program delivery, communications, and data collection.
- Superb interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time while maintaining focus, close attention to detail, and skill in prioritizing
- Experience using EveryAction, or similar database
- Grounds work in racial equity: analyzes and addresses the structural impacts of policies, practices, and decisions on different racial groups, and works to eliminate inequities
- Demonstrated commitment to BIPOC leadership and to racial, social, economic, and gender justice
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, including weekends, and travel when required for alumni programming and events, staff retreats and to perform other duties of the role
- Organizing experience or an understanding of the broader progressive movement is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation for this position is highly competitive, with a starting salary of $75,000 annually. re:power offers a comprehensive benefits package, including these and other employment-related benefits:
