What is the difference between re:power and re:power Fund?
re:power is a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization that supports the operations of our political leadership and development programs. Donations to 501(c)(4)s are not tax deductible. re:power’s tax identification number is 33-1041433.
re:power Fund is a 501(c)(3) social welfare organization and gifts to re:power Fund support our public leadership and civic engagement programs. These gifts are fully tax deductible. re:power Fund’s tax identification number is 35-2191193.
How do I name re:power or re:power Fund as a beneficiary in my will?
Thank you for thinking of how you can support us in longevity! If you are considering a legacy gift, we would be delighted to confidentially discuss your questions. To start that conversation, please email us at development@repower.org or call us at 651-645-3939.
You can also use the following sample language:
I give and bequeath [choose one:] (the sum of ____ dollars), or (description of specific property), or (____percent of my residuary estate) to [choose one:] (re:power) (re:power Fund) with its principal office located at 2136 Ford Parkway, #5523, Saint Paul, MN 55116 to be used for its general purpose.
Please also be sure to let us know that you’ve listed us as a beneficiary so we can thank you.
How do I designate re:power or re:power Fund as beneficiaries of my retirement or life insurance benefits?
This is another great way to support us. After deciding what percentage of the plan’s value (0–100 percent) or what specific cash value you would like re:power or re:power Fund to receive, simply contact the administrator of your IRA, retirement plan, or life insurance policy for a ‘change of beneficiary’ form. Save yourself a hassle by asking your administrator if any special information will be needed to designate an organization as a beneficiary. Typically, you’ll just need our tax ID and address, but every company is different.
Once you receive the form, name re:power or re:power Fund as a beneficiary along with your chosen percentage or dollar amount, and return the form to the administrator of the plan.

Do re:power and re:power Fund accept stock gifts?
Yes – stock shares are an excellent way to give generously. At this time, our 501(c)3, re:power Fund, can accept gifts of stock. Donating stock directly to a charitable organization, like re:power Fund, can increase the amount of money received by the charity while reducing tax burden for the donor. When you donate appreciated securities (investments that have increased in value from the time they were purchased), some individuals and households may be able to take advantage of IRS tax provisions to claim a charitable tax deduction for the full, fair market value of the securities. This means you may avoid paying capital gains tax on the transfer.
Your financial/tax advisor or broker can explain the possible tax benefits depending on whether the stock has appreciated or lost value since the time you acquired it. We do not currently accept stock for our 501(c)4, re:power. However, please let us know if you are hoping to make this type of gift and we can keep you updated on when that will be available.
If you would like to make a gift of stock, please contact us for our DTC # and additional information required to make this type of gift by emailing development@repower.org or by calling 651-645-3939
Can I make a Charitable IRA Rollover to re:power?
Absolutely. If you’re a donor who’s 70½ or older, and you have either a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA, you probably know that you’re required to take distributions from your IRAs every year. You should consult your tax advisor to understand the tax implications of this donation.
One way to support re:power Fund is to make what’s called a “charitable IRA rollover.” Charitable IRA rollovers are really just gifts that you ask your IRA administrator to transfer directly from your traditional IRA or Roth IRA account to re:power Fund. The gift amount will not be counted as part of your adjusted gross income, but will count towards your required minimum distribution.
Two caveats: Just know that you cannot also receive a tax deduction for your rollover gift – that would be double-dipping! Also, gifts of this kind can only be transferred to re:power Fund- our 501(c)3 organization.
Questions about this? We recommend calling the administrator of your IRA or Roth IRA for more information.
What is re:power Fund’s tax ID number?
Our tax ID number is: 35-2191193
Are there any best practices to keep in mind?
We urge you to talk about this with your family and with a legal or financial advisor you trust.
Can I give through a Donor-Advised Fund?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a fast-growing charitable program which allows donors to make a contribution, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund over time. If you have a DAF, you can recommend grants directly to support re:power Fund, our 501(c)(3). Donors recommend donations to re:power Fund from many DAFs – popularly Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable and Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Click on the links above to be redirected to the DAF page to initiate your donation recommendation.
