Digital Advertising

Overview

The Digital Advertising course will equip digital organizers with the knowledge and skills to create impactful digital advertising campaigns. This course aims to foster a deep understanding of how digital advertising campaigns can be harnessed to advocate for social justice and change. We will cover ethical considerations, account setup, strategy, segmentation, creative content, analytics, and ads for multilingual audiences.

*In order to do practice assignments, students will need access to a Meta and YouTube account, EIN Documentation (commonly referred to as a tax ID), Certificate of Incorporation or Formation, Business License, or Form 990. Your organization’s name should match the URL of your website and domain name for the email addresses. If you are unable to access or create an organizational Meta and YouTube account, you can still come to class and learn. Please email digital@repower.org if you have questions.

Who is this for?

  • Organizing Insight: Folks with experience doing organizing work on the ground. That work can be tied to grassroots, electoral, and/or issue organizing. We seek to support organizers who are currently part of a campaign effort or are seeking to build one.
  • Technical Aptitude: Whether you have experience in organizing online or not, we are interested in organizers and campaign practitioners who want to rapidly develop their technical skills. 
  • Graphic Design Experience: Ideal applicants will have a basic understanding of graphic design and/or graphic design tools like Canva.

Introduction to Digital Organizing

Overview

Intro to Digital Organizing is a 3-week course curated to teach organizers the fundamentals of building online campaigns. Participants will learn the skills necessary to develop a digital base and presence for their online work. In a “post-COVID” world, our communities are more online than ever, and digital organizing is no longer a “nice-to-have,” but a must-have tactic for winning.

At re:power we approach Digital Organizing through a relational-organizing lens—understanding that the work in the digital realm is not meant to replace what is happening offline. This course will help anyone new to the world of online organizing understand best practices on content creation, strategic messages, building audiences, social media and more.

Who is this course for?

  • Organizers and Communications folks who are new to the digital organizing landscape and want to learn the fundamentals of launching or maintaining a digital presence
  • Organizers who see the importance of digital organizing but are unsure where to start.
  • Leaders, Organizers, and other non-profit folks who want to skill up to work in the field of digital organizing.

What will you learn?

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Make assessments about your audience in order to tailor content.
  • Build strategic messages and storytelling to cultivate community and move people to action.
  • Write effective emails, and mobile messages.

Intermediate Digital Organizing

April 19, 2022

Overview

This three-week course goes deeper into the strategies and tactics discussed in our Introduction to Digital Organizing course. Session topics will include Design Training, Data Collection & Syncing, Intro to Analytics, A/B Testing, and more. Participants will be able to immediately apply learnings to their day-to-day organizing.

Who is this course for?

  • Digital Organizing Experience: Participants should have participated in re:power’s Introduction to Digital Organizing, or have experience using digital tactics such as mass email and peer-to-peer texting to move supporters to take action.
  • Organizing Insight: Folks with experience doing organizing work on the ground. That work can be tied to grassroots, electoral, and/or issue organizing. We seek to support organizers who are currently part of a campaign effort or are seeking to build one.
  • Technical Aptitude: Organizers and campaign practitioners who want to rapidly develop their technical skills and are excited about challenging themselves to learn new ways of doing the work and partnering with others to come up with creative solutions. 
  • Data Curious: Folks who are ready to take their digital organizing to the next level by adding principles of data & analytics to their strategy.
